Estudios: México: tráfico móvil continúa en ascenso
Al segundo trimestre de 2018, las líneas móviles totalizaron 118,1 millones en México, de acuerdo con datos de la consultora The Competitive Intelligence Unit (CIU) recogidos en una infografía de 5G Americas. Para el cierre del año, The CIU prevé que el total de líneas se ubicará en los 121,2 millones.
En paralelo al incremento en suscripciones, en los últimos años se dio un avance de los smartphones frente a los “feature phones” —dispositivos de capacidades más básicas— en el mercado móvil. Así, los smartphones pasaron desde 62,6 millones en el segundo trimestre de 2015 a 102,9 millones en igual período de este año.
Al observar este período, se verifica también que el tráfico móvil de minutos de voz comienza a amesetarse, presentando un crecimiento bajo, y el tráfico de SMS también presenta una meseta con tendencia a la baja.
Al mismo tiempo, el tráfico de datos medido en MB presenta una importante curva de crecimiento, llegando a 1.237 MB en el segundo trimestre de 2018, con un crecimiento anual del 35 por ciento.
“Las cifras del mercado mexicano revelan que los consumidores están utilizando fuertemente las redes móviles para acceder a contenidos, información y otros servicios de datos. Para continuar satisfaciendo esta demanda, es importante que las autoridades y la industria de telecomunicaciones trabajen en conjunto para planificar adecuadamente el desarrollo de la infraestructura que deberá soportar estas tendencias en los próximos años”, indicó José Otero, director de 5G Americas para América Latina y el Caribe.
