Recolectar la cosecha de café para luego llevarla al pueblo más cercano y vendérsela a los intermediarios o al propio comité local de cafeteros dejó de ser una costumbre para varios de los cultivadores del grano del occidente del departamento del Huila.

Así quedó demostrado durante el evento realizado hace apenas una semana en el municipio de La Plata, por la Cámara de Comercio de Neiva, y la sede de La Plata, donde se realizó la primera Feria Expooccidente, en la que participaron cafeteros, tostadores locales, comerciantes, ganaderos, productores de insumos y maquinaria agrícola, instituciones públicas y promotores turísticos de la región.

CAFÉS PROPIOS
La nota sobresaliente la pusieron los cafeteros, quienes exhibieron alrededor de una decena de marcas propias, e hicieron degustaciones sobre diferentes tipos de la bebida, todas ellas, producidas en condiciones especiales.
Se trata de una tendencia que se ha convertido en la nueva cosecha cafetera del Huila, en la que los productores han comenzado a dar el paso hacia convertirse en tostadores del grano.
Hoy, Portafolio destaca varias de las marcas propias del grano de la región, pues incluye cafés producidos en La Plata, Paicol, Tesalia y Nátaga, entre otras poblaciones.
Catas, pruebas y demostraciones sobre la preparación la bebida y de los subproductos del mejor café del mundo estuvieron a la orden del día.
En efecto, durante tres días, la feria Expooccidente 2019 –que se llevó a cabo del 3 al 5 de mayo en La Plata– se convirtió en el epicentro de una importante muestra comercial, agroindustrial, gastronómica y de negocios del occidente del departamento del Huila y nororiente caucano.
El evento contó con la participación de aproximadamente 14 mil visitantes.
El evento ferial, organizado por la Alcaldía de la Plata y la Cámara de Comercio de Neiva, sede La Plata, contó con la presencia de 76 expositores de diferentes sectores como construcción, gastronomía, bienestar, automotriz, agroindustria, apuestas productivas, muestra ganadera y equina, distribuidos en las instalaciones del Centro Cultural Recreacional y Polideportivo El Pomo.
En la feria estuvieron presentes, además, expositores provenientes de diferentes municipios del Huila y departamentos como Cauca, Cundinamarca, Valle y Bogotá, quienes ofrecieron productos de diferentes sectores, los mejores estándares de calidad, gracias al fortalecimiento de sus unidades productivas.
Así mismo, se desarrolló una nutrida agenda académica, con temas como economía naranja, innovación, marketing, infraestructura para la competitividad, Empresario Cafetero y ganadería, los cuales se adelantaron de forma articulada con el Sena, municipio de La Plata, Surcogan, Cadefihuila, Invitro Colombia, Comité de Ganaderos del Huila y Corporación Cultural Covalonga, entre otros.
“La feria Expooccidente es una opción para que la asociación se dé a conocer, resaltar el valor de la mujer desde todos los ámbitos”, dijo Leidy Rocío Pastrana, de la Asociación de Mujeres del Occidente del Huila.
Se vivió además de una variada vitrina comercial, la reconocida muestra ganadera y equina, la cual tuvo diferentes actividades como conferencias y talleres.
“Estas son las oportunidades que necesitamos para crear empresa, crecer, pero sobretodo el apoyo de las entidades privadas y públicas, en este caso la Cámara de Comercio de Neiva, porque solos no podemos. Queremos vernos en tres o cuatro años, haciendo esta feria y notarán la diferencia”, dijo Néstor Ariel Polanía, presidente de la junta directiva de Surcogán.
“Lo más importante de todo fue que dimos a conocer todo el potencial del occidente del Huila y nororiente caucano. Fue una vitrina muy interesante para cada uno de los expositores, logramos que se llevaran lo mejor de nuestra zona”, puntualizó Sandra Milena Ramírez, directora de la Cámara de Comercio de Neiva, sede La Plata.
El último día de feria cerró con el lanzamiento del 62 Festival folclórico y sampedrino de La Plata ‘Patrimonio Vivo’, todo un despliegue de alegría y folclor.
Como balance del evento ferial, la organización manifestó que los expositores obtuvieron ventas por $1.236 millones, representados en negocios y ventas durante la feria, así como $70.900 millones en la rueda de negocios.
