La cadena anunció que uno de los máximos retailers del país adquirirá sus acciones por 620 millones de euros.

Tras 24 años de operación en China, el Grupo Carrefour anunció su retirada -parcial- de ese país con la venta del 80% de sus acciones, valuadas en 620 millones de euros, al minorista chino Suning.com, que sumará a sus más de 8.880 tiendas los 210 hipermercados y 24 tiendas de conveniencia del retailer francés.
El avance de gigantes del e-commerce como Alibaba, el lento poder de adaptación y transformación de la compañía francesa y el crecimiento de competidores locales fueron solo algunos de los motivos que hicieron que “la promesa” de la década del noventa fuera cayendo año tras año, hasta llegar al 2018 con una facturación de 3.646 millones de euros, lo que representó una baja de casi el 10% con relación al 2017.

Según Carrefour, su filial china está valorada en 1.400 millones de euros y, de concretarse la venta a Suning.com, la tercera plataforma de comercio electrónico B2C más grande del país, el retailer francés mantendrá una participación del 20% en el negocio y dos de los siete puestos en el Consejo de Supervisión de Carrefour China.
Cabe destacar que cuando Carrefour ingresó a China en los años noventa, fue un precursor en la distribución minorista y llegó a revolucionar el mercado local con una propuesta innovadora y retadora a las reglas comerciales del país. Sin embargo, el paso del tiempo y su bajo poder de adaptación y superación frente a la competencia, hizo que sus operaciones quedaran obsoletas y que sus intentos por mejorar su negocio digital y servicios omnicanales no estuvieron a la altura del actual mercado.
